Leah McSweeney on OnlyFans & the Future of Fashion

Leah McSweeney knows what makes a brand iconic. Since launching her streetwear label Married to the Mob in 2004, she’s become a fixture in fashion, pop culture, and New York’s creative scene. Inspired by the people around her, especially her fans, Leah brings that same perspective to OFTV as the host of The Fashion Files, where she spotlights the designers shaping what’s next. We caught up with Leah to talk style, storytelling, and building a brand.

Leah McSweeney Interview

As a designer, what first drew you to OnlyFans?

My brand, Married to the Mob, which I started in 2004, has been and will always be a sexy, female empowerment brand. It's a little provocative as well.

It aligns perfectly because OnlyFans embodies female empowerment, sexiness, and doing what you want

Does being a designer influence how you approach content?

I always come from the perspective of creative direction and art direction when I'm doing stuff for my brand or other projects.

I think with my own OnlyFans profile, I get to put the perfectionist mask down a little because I know my fans want to see the real me. They don’t want to see staged things, so I get to be a little more myself.

Can fan feedback really impact a designer’s work?

Absolutely. I think we're seeing more and more that brands can talk directly to their consumers in a way they never were able to before and get real-time feedback.

What’s your favorite thing about OF?

One of my favorite things about OnlyFans is that there is no algorithm. You see what you want to see, and you have to specifically seek out that creator, fashion designer, chef, or fitness trainer. For me, it feels a lot more like I'm in control.

What are some ways designers are using OnlyFans?

Hillary from Collina Strada posts videos about how young fashion designers can start a brand. Louis Gabriel Nouchi has his own version. He works with different photographers and videographers, and he's really creating art pieces for his profile.

Why should more designers join OF?

OnlyFans really is a disruptive, renegade type of company and platform. If you want to make waves in fashion, you need to have a story to tell. You need to be doing something differently. You need to be thinking differently. You need to think outside the box.

I think joining OnlyFans is a huge opportunity to do that.

Tell us about The Fashion Files on OFTV.

What we're doing with The Fashion Files hasn't really been done much before because most of the content is so DIY. Of course, there's a lot of media that [covers fashion] really well. But the way we're creating these mini documentaries with designers, getting to see the behind the scenes, the show, and after the show, I think it's super special.

What excites you most about documenting these designers?

You don't get into fashion because you want to be rich or famous. You get into fashion because you really have a calling to express yourself through your brand. You have a story. You have a perspective that you want to share.

So I love getting to see each designer's perspective in a more personal way when I'm doing The Fashion Files with them.

What are your thoughts on OF Merch?

I see OnlyFans as a lifestyle brand. It's not just a platform. It's a lifestyle brand. And to me, that lifestyle is entrepreneurship and female empowerment. OnlyFans is such a cultural phenomenon and such a huge part of the conversation in the zeitgeist. The logo just excites me.

When I wear OnlyFans out in the world, I feel like wearing the logo says, "I'm a rebel..."

"I do what I want, and I don't give a [bleep]."
