Ephemeral content has been an important part of the content strategies of digital creators and marketers alike since 2016. But what is ephemeral content and how can you use it on OnlyFans?
What is ephemeral content?
“Ephemeral” means lasting only for a short time. It’s a term that can be applied to some of life’s most memorable things, like blossom in the spring or the colour of autumn leaves. Ephemeral content is not permanent, and it stands to reason that this impermanence can also be powerful.
Posting high-quality ephemeral content can be helpful for engagement because it incentivises users to keep checking on your page — they don’t want to miss out on that great content you will be posting that won’t be around for long. Ephemeral content can also be fun for creators, as it’s often less polished than posts on your carefully curated feed. If you’re short on time or energy, you can post ephemeral content that’s authentic and spontaneous, without the pressure of it sticking around.
Ephemeral content on OnlyFans
There are a number of ways you can make ephemeral content part of your strategy on OnlyFans. Try using the following OnlyFans features:
On OnlyFans, stories are images or videos that vanish after 24 hours. Stories can be a great way to show your fans what you’re up to on a day-to-day basis, let them get behind the scenes of a photoshoot, or even just make use of surplus photos from a set that didn’t make it to your main feed.
To add a story, go to the OnlyFans homepage and click the ‘Add Story’ button below the post composer. Your story will stay on your profile for 24 hours unless you choose to add it to your highlights, in which case it will remain viewable as long as you want it there.
Add an expiration period to your post
You can give a regular post on your feed some ephemerality by adding an expiration period. If you’re savvy about it, this strategy can increase engagement by giving the post a ‘limited time only’ feel.
To add an expiration period to your post, go to the composer and click the hourglass icon. A window will open where you can choose what you want the expiration date of your post to be.
Streaming is also a great type of ephemeral content that allows you to interact with your fans in real-time. On OnlyFans you can Go Live by yourself or with another creator.

Go into your OnlyFans Vault
When it comes to ephemeral content on OnlyFans it doesn’t have to stay ephemeral. Every image and video you post on OnlyFans is stored in your Vault, including live-streams. So if you posted a story and later you realise that this is a piece of content that you want to use elsewhere, you just go into your Vault and share it to your feed or send via direct message. Your Vault can be found in your main menu by clicking on your profile picture.
